Sunshine Service Brake & Alignment
I brought my van in because it has a knock sensor code and a misfire code, so it won't pass smog. They told me that the best thing to do is try to smog it right away, that way any work they do gets counted towards a smog waiver if I can't afford to fix everything. Seems a bit weird that they're expecting me to run out of money so quick, but who knows, right? So it's $35 for a failed smog check (obviously it failed, the check engine light is on!). Then we wait 2 days, I call them and ask if they've done anything, so they finally start working. They call me back and tell me there's a knock sensor failure and a misfire on the fifth cylinder. Yeah, that's literally what the code reader said, we knew that two days ago. They tell me the cylinder misfire will bring my total to $800. Then the knock sensor will be another $2000 since they'll need to lift the whole engine to reach it. I tell them to just do the first one and get me another smog failure so I can show the DMV I'm trying. So that's $800 to hold onto my car for 2 days without touching itand then look at the codes already written on the paper, then do a basic tune-up.
